1.FC Köln HYPE SPIN® Accelerator – Batch 2.

The winners of the second round of the FC startup program have been announced. Three young companies were honoured with the “Golden Hennes” at the SPOBIS in Düsseldorf: Filmily, Data United by Betegy and GamerHealth.

There was a special scene for the highlight. The conclusion of the second round of the 1.FC Köln HYPE-SPIN® Accelerator-Program took place in the heart of the action at SPOBIS in Düsseldorf. The ten participating startups made their final presentation in front of an audience of esteemed industry leaders. At the end, the “Best Pitch” of the day was awarded to Filmily, a company that developed an app that automatically creates videos from user-generated content.  

“Being part of this program has been a great experience. Working with FC and HYPE has done exactly what an Accelerator promises: we have matured as a company. Having access to the experts of a Bundesliga club who give honest feedback has helped us a lot and, for example, has completely changed the way we present ourselves,” says Filmily founder Andy Doyle.

“Best Startup” was awarded to Betegy’s spin-off, Data United, a platform that enables complex analyses of the most likely outcome of a football match by using artificial intelligence and connecting to existing and new data sources. A visual representation of the data collected makes it easier for data analysts, coaches or scouts to make well-founded decisions. Founder Alex Kornilov says: “We are grateful for all the effort, time and expertise that has been invested in us. We are now ten times better, faster and stronger than before the funding program”.   

For FC, the “Best Test Case” was awarded to Gamer Health. The app offers e-athletes tailor-made solutions to achieve better performance – especially through elements such as physical fitness and healthy nutrition. Through the accelerator program, Gamer Health was able to work closely with SK Gaming, the Cologne-based e-sports company in which 1 FC Köln is a shareholder.

“All the start-ups have won, not just the ones we awarded,” emphasized FC Managing Director Alexander Wehrle. “Everyone was able to profit from the time in the program and has developed very positively. We also learned a lot again, gained exciting insights and implemented promising tests together with the start-ups.”

The 1.FC Köln HYPE SPIN® Accelerator is the first sports tech accelerator within the Bundesliga. It offers innovative entrepreneurs a 12-week program to test their ideas and business models in a real environment and to push them forward with professional sports and business experts from the network.
