PwC released annual report exploring the key trends shaping the sports industry in 2021
Since 2016, the PwC Sports Survey has been monitoring the annual pulse of the sports industry by analyzing leaders’ perceptions of past and future market growth. For the first time, this year’s edition addresses the key market forces deemed to transform the sports sector over the next three to five years. The esports market in 2019 has surpassed $1.1Bn according to the Newzoo Global Esports Market Report. The report details a massive $456.7M in sponsorship, a further $251.3M in media rights and $189.2M in advertising. Both merchandising and ticketing, and game publisher fees make up less than 20% of the remaining value.

There was a special scene for the highlight. The conclusion of the second round of the 1.FC Köln HYPE-SPIN® Accelerator-Program took place in the heart of the action at SPOBIS in Düsseldorf. The ten participating startups made their final presentation in front of an audience of esteemed industry leaders. At the end, the “Best Pitch” of the day was awarded to Filmily, a company that developed an app that automatically creates videos from user-generated content.
